- Plant hyacinth bulbs in the fall when the ground cools and before the first hard frost, outside temperature should be about 65°F or cooler, wear gloves when planting, as bulb dust may cause a harmless skin irritation, select a well-drained location that receives full Sun to partial shade, dig a hole 6 in. to 8 in.
